Why is Religion so violent and what can we do about it?  

The Saturday night discussion is “Beyond Reform—Passionately Acknowledging the Truth of Judaism While Recognizing other Religions.”   

Rabbi Gerald L. Zelizer is Rabbi Emeritus at Congregation Neve Shalom, Metuchen, where he served for 45 years. A fourth generation rabbi, born in Columbus, Ohio, he was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary, where he also received a Master’s Degree in Hebrew Literature. Rabbi Zelizer has written over 70 essays on matters of religion, the media and American society. His writings have appeared in the Star Ledger, USA Today, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, and major Jewish publications, including Judaism, The Jewish Spectator, The Reconstructionist, and Conservative Judaism. Rabbi Zelizer is currently instructor of Homiletics to the senior class at the Jewish Theological Seminary. He has served as President of the International Rabbinical Assembly, on the Committee on Jewish Law and Standards, and has been a member of the Ethics Committee of the Rabbincal Assembly.
